Greystones SC have created a secure online entry payment link

 https://pay.easypaymentsplus.com/feepay1.aspx?id=909

for the GP14 Purcell Trophy event.

Can you please make use of it in advance of the event?

Paddy & Tania welcome Pixie!

Congratulations to Paddy & Tanis on the arrival of Pixie a little early on March 7th.  All are doing.

We might not see too much of the family this year as their GP14 has just been sold.  But we will hopefuly see more of them next year.

Dan & Mairin O'Connell have twins!

Congratulations to Dan & Mairin on the arrival of their twin boy & girl Paul and Millie in early April.  All doing well.

With their hands well and truly full they have sadly decided to put their GP14 13801 up for sale.  Hopefully we will see the O'Connell family back on the water soon.

Richard Estaugh Bursary awarded to Josh Porter!

Report by Bob Torrens

Josh Porter, Newtownards Sailing Club GP14 Fleet Captain, is the first recipient of a Richard Estaugh Bursary.

The 'Richard Estaugh Fund' was established from the sale of GP14 14000 which was donated by the late Richard Estaugh. Richard was not only a much respected sail-maker, boat-builder and multiple championship winner, but also a truly great ambassador for the sport of Sailing and the GP14 Class in particular. The fund was created in perpetual memory of Richard and the huge contribution that he made to the GP Class.

The Bursary is aimed in particular at young sailors from the GP14 International class but any GP sailor can apply for assistance from the fund to go towards the cost of worthwhile sailing related projects. These can take many forms such as participation in training/coaching programmes, championship campaigns, a cruising challenge or sailing expedition, providing assistance or ‘buddying’ for people with a disadvantage or disability.

Although Josh has been awarded the bursary to go towards his campaign at the UK National GP14 Championship in Cornwall this year he is also heavily involved in promoting the GP class in the area as Newtownards Fleet Captain. The Ballyhalbert youth helps extensively with training at NSC and with maintaining the Club's GP14 boats which assist newcomers to the sport to get an opportunity to sail without the expense of buying a boat.

2017 GP14 Membership

Do you need to renew or set up your GP14 International Class Association membership?  It is easy to complete online.  For full details see the Become a Member page details.

All helms for GP14 events must be a member but we would also encourage crews to join as associate members.

Helms sailing without membership during an event will be recorded as DSQ'ed.

Tom Jobling's New Book Launch

8pm Wed 8th March - Greystones SC

On Wednesday 8th March Greystones Sailing Club will be hosting the Northern nautical novelist Thomas Jobling with his unique 'BOOKS & BOATS' one-man illustrated show.

As well as yarning about exploits afloat, recounting tales from his nautical scribing days, the yachtsman and competitive sailor will be narrating the story behind his journey into the world of nautical fiction as well as talking about and reading from his latest book - ARTHUR'S DEAD. Tom will also be available to sign any purchased copies of  Arthur' and/or his debut novel, Chasing Shadows.

BOOKS & BOATS has been touring the maritime establishments of Northern Ireland since the launch of 'Arthur' in Central Belfast late last year. This, Thomas Jobling's current offering, has received rave reviews: Martina Devlin, the acclaimed Dublin journalist and novelist (Sisterland) wrote; "A dramatic story with gripping sea scenes..." while leading America's Cup commentator Bob Fisher said of it; "Jobling's knack of good character building shines in this tale of deception..."

As well as holding various championship titles, Thomas Jobling is a past Commodore of East Antrim Boat Club, and a President of the Irish GP14 Association.  He is also a member of the international Yachting Journalists Association, and the John Hewitt Society.  He currently races a Quarter Tonner in and around Belfast Lough ... and still wins the occasional race!

BOOKS & BOATS will be kicking off at eight o'clock in Greystones SC clubhouse.
